On The Road

Reporting for his first day on the "job" Collin found a few moments to capture some pictures of the machines following the Memorial Day Holiday. The road trip left him a bit unnerved after losing parts of his 951 to a Nebraska "worst ever rain storm" whose 80 mph wind blew off the header panel (that section at the nose between the headlights). "What was a good looking car now appears to be an 8 year old that's missing his two front teeth!" Collin explained. The trip to Elkhart Lake,WI provided much adventure starting with the road closure at Lordsburg, NM to Deming. A giant pile up from the dust storm last Wednesday, found Collin and Nikki sitting in a gas station looking at the map and awaiting a road to re-open north or east. It did and they geared up to Silver City with sights set on I-25. "Every semi on the planet had the same idea" and the winding road was not the fun it was meant to be in a Porsche. New Mexico's enchantment was again diminished for our pilot friend.

The 2K mile ride was free of any mechanical problems and using just 1 quart of oil was a pleasant surprise as the turbo tends to take a bit more. . . . turbo, Collin? 95 to 100 mph, Collin? Is there an autobahn back there Collin? Ah, be assured the best radar detector is on board and this GPS unit will not fail him. The luggage is a different story and was definitely a drag on the speed and economy of the trip. Saying good bye to it was not a problem as Nikki chose to mail it back to Tucson rather than include it on her return flight. Was it really 400 pounds, Collin? After delivering her to her flight Monday morning it was off to Plymouth, WI. a city larger than Elkhart Lake about 10 miles away where he is rooming-up with another guy from the garage. He was able to enjoy watching the Monte Carlo Formula 1 race - "Awesome, great race" - before preparing for day one at the garages of Motorsports Ent. This upcoming weekend the 16 year old son of the programs client will race his first Formula Atlantic. We hope to learn more on this son of Brian, a veteran racer himself.

Oh to be free of care, the wind, the rain and the dust in your face and a summer with the machines you dream of.
