Community Service

A Porsche car club doing community service? You bet! We drive on these roads so we should take care of them in the best way that we can. Now obviously we are not going to be able to fill potholes or grade and repave the bad parts, but it turns out that there is a way for us to help.

Project Adopt-A-Roadway

In 2003, one of our members decided to look into the possibility of joining the Pima County Adopt-A-Roadway program. With strong club support, she launched us onto "our" section of Pima county, Orange Grove Rd. What we found there was a multi-year accumulation of trash, some deposited accidentally no doubt, but some placed there on purpose! Over the next few years we worked hard a removing the paper, cardboard, aluminum cans, Styrofoam and cigarettes, thousands of cigarette butts. Not just one or two here and there, but piles of butts from in-car ashtrays. Well, we are happy to report that with a regular scrubbing, there are now merely hundreds of butts out there. Follow along with as we clean up this mess.

Buffelgrass Removal Project

In 2009 another issue arose, Buffelgrass. Somehow, while we weren't looking, this non-native, invasive grass made its way to "our" roadside. Some might have said "so what, " but not this group. Once again, with strong member support we presented our case to Pima County. We later heard that one of the County officials said- "Well, if they want to pull up that Buffelgrass we'll let them do it!" And so, we've begun. Most interestingly, our group was the first Adopt-A-Roadaway group to ask about getting involved directly. Its going to be fun to watch as other Adopt-A-Roadway group rally to the call.
